Why Choose Aluminum for CNC Machining?
At 6CNC, aluminum is one of our most frequently machined materials. It offers an excellent strength-to-weight ratio, superior machinability, good thermal and electrical conductivity, and natural corrosion resistance.
With low density (~2.7 g/cm³) and fast cutting speeds, aluminum helps reduce part weight while lowering machining time and cost. It is ideal for complex geometries and tight-tolerance components.
We support a wide range of aluminum alloys and provide one-stop machining + surface finishing services to meet your functional and appearance requirements.
Popular Aluminum Alloys We Machine
Aluminum 6061 / 6061-T6
The most versatile general-purpose alloy. It delivers excellent machinability, weldability, and corrosion resistance with good strength. Widely used for structural parts, frames, electronic enclosures, automotive components, and prototypes.
Typical Properties (6061-T6):
- Yield Strength: ~276 MPa
- Density: 2.70 g/cm³
- Brinell Hardness: 95
Aluminum 5052
Excellent corrosion resistance, especially in marine and chemical environments. Good formability and fatigue strength.
Aluminum 5083
High strength combined with superior corrosion resistance. Commonly used in shipbuilding, pressure vessels, and marine equipment.
Aluminum 7075 / 7075-T6
High-strength aerospace-grade alloy with excellent fatigue resistance. Suitable for high-stress applications such as aircraft fittings, military equipment, robotics, and performance automotive parts.
Typical Properties (7075-T6):
- Yield Strength: ~503 MPa
- Density: 2.81 g/cm³
- Brinell Hardness: 150
Aluminum 6082
Similar to 6061 but offers slightly higher strength. Popular for structural applications and heavy-duty frames.
Aluminum 2024
High-strength alloy with excellent fatigue resistance. Often used in aerospace and precision mechanical parts.
Surface Finishes for Aluminum Parts
Enhance durability, appearance, and functionality with these options:
As Machined
Clean surface directly from CNC machining. Maintains the tightest tolerances. Cost-effective choice when appearance is not critical.
Anodizing (Type II & III)
Creates a hard, protective oxide layer that significantly improves corrosion and wear resistance. Can be dyed in various colors (black, red, blue, gold, etc.).• Type II: Standard anodizing • Type III: Hard anodizing (thicker, more durable)
Sandblasting / Bead Blasting
Produces a uniform, matte, non-reflective surface. Removes machining marks and creates a consistent texture. Often used before anodizing.
Powder Coating
Durable, high-quality colored finish with excellent corrosion protection. Wide range of colors and textures available. Ideal for outdoor or high-visibility parts.
Polishing / Brushing
Achieve high-gloss mirror finish or elegant brushed satin look. Great for consumer electronics, medical devices, and decorative components.
Other Finishes
Painting, Chromate Conversion Coating (Alodine), Electroplating, Clear Coating, Laser Engraving, etc.
