Protective Treatments & Plating
Compare conversion treatments, anodizing and metallic coatings by substrate, exposure and dimensional requirements.

Type II Anodizing
A dyeable oxide finish for aluminum housings, brackets and other visible parts.

Type III Hard Anodizing
A wear-focused anodized finish for aluminum guides, contact surfaces and moving components.

Black Oxide
A dark conversion finish for steel parts where appearance and limited dimensional change matter.

Passivation
A stainless steel treatment that removes surface contamination while retaining the metal’s natural appearance.

Electroless Nickel Plating
A nickel coating used where consistent coverage across complex geometry is important.

Zinc Plating
A sacrificial protective coating commonly specified for steel brackets, hardware and fasteners.

Chrome Plating
A chromium finish selected for wear or appearance, depending on the specified coating system.

Nickel Plating
An electrolytic metal coating specified for appearance, protection or functional surface requirements.

Chemical Conversion Coating
A thin conversion finish for aluminum when corrosion protection, paint adhesion or electrical contact matters.
Machined & Refined Surfaces
Choose the surface condition and edge treatment that fit assembly, handling and cleaning requirements.

As Machined
The surface retains visible machining marks. Specify any required edge breaks or roughness on the drawing.

Electropolishing
An electrochemical smoothing process often selected for stainless steel parts with cleanability or appearance requirements.

Vibratory Finishing
Media finishing that removes light burrs and softens exposed edges on suitable parts.
Texture & Appearance
Compare matte, directional and reflective finishes and define how the visible surface should be accepted.

Bead Blasting
A fine, diffuse matte finish that reduces the visibility of light tool marks.

Brushing
A directional grain finish. Specify the brush direction on visible faces.

Polishing
An abrasive refinement process for smoother, more reflective surfaces.

Sandblasting
Abrasive blasting for a more pronounced matte texture or preparation for another coating.
Paint & Functional Coatings
Select a coating based on exposure, appearance, thickness and the function of the coated surfaces.

Powder Coating
A cured finish for colored or textured surfaces, commonly used on covers and enclosures.

Wet Spray Painting
A spray-applied finish for specified colors, gloss levels and appearance requirements.

E-Coating
A dip-applied coating used to cover accessible recesses and complex conductive parts.

PTFE Coating
A low-friction coating option for applications with specified release or sliding requirements.

Other Functional Coatings
Specify the coating system and target performance so compatibility and availability can be reviewed.
Heat Treatment & Mold Finishes
Document these related requirements separately in projects that include machined parts or mold tooling.
