Document these related requirements separately in projects that include machined parts or mold tooling.
Heat Treatment
For specified metal grades and conditions. Provide the treatment, target hardness or material condition, test requirements, and critical dimensions. Review whether finishing or final machining follows the treatment.
SPI Mold Surface Finish
For mold tooling and molded-part appearance requirements. State the SPI grade, material, cosmetic faces, and approved reference. Discuss this as a tooling and molding requirement when reviewing a combined project.
What to Specify on Your Drawing
Specify the required material condition or mold finish on the drawing and agree how it will be verified. Confirm when final machining, polishing or inspection should take place.
